Artistic Director Dr Ananda Shankar Jayant, the Artistic Director of Shankarananda Kalakshetra is celebrated as a brilliant choreographer, with works that straddle the traditional and the contemporary; and span the spectrum of both classical Indian dance forms of Bharatanatyam and Kuchipudi, and neo classical movement technique; creating the warp and weft of a rich repertoire. Ananda leads an ensemble of excellent dancers and musicians, who have performed to packed audiences across five continents. With an acclaimed and intense body of work, Ananda, constantly stretches the boundaries of artistic endeavour, using the grammar and idiom of the classical dance format, making her presentations at once contemporary and evocative. A much loved Guru, Ananda directs the teaching programme at Shankarananda Kalakshetra, where emphasis is laid on an in depth training in technique, and yet rising above grammar, to touch an inner spiritual core, so that dancer becomes the dance, and dance becomes a way of life. |
