Nritya Sanrachana, a festival of choreographic works, is one of several events focusing on Contemporary Choreography organized by the Sangeet Natak Akademi in recent years. Almost since its inception, Sangeet Natak Akademi has been alive and responsive to the important element of choreography in the arena of classical and contemporary dance in the country. Over the years, Nritya Sanrachana has been held across various cities and is now being presented in Hyderabad.

The special theme for this Choreography festival is the concept of Sankhya or Numbers.

Indian mythology and legends go hand in hand with numbers. It is common knowledge that there are ten avatars of Vishnu (Dashavatara) or that there are Pancha Bhutas (five elements) or that Indian literature speaks of six seasons (Shadrutu). These ideas have been explored in various dance forms by various artistes.

Taking the stories and ideas woven around the prime numbers, the various legends, myths and ideas represented in Indian literature arts and Philosophy , will be presented in the myriad classical dance forms of India. To be performed by some of the leading and outstanding dancer-choreographers of the country, this festival will be presented over five days at Ravindra Bharathi, Hyderabad from 21st to 25th July 2008.

Two dance styles and two concepts would be presented on each day. Beginning with the number ten and progressing towards zero or Shoonya. This festival will be unique and a first of its kind, as varied themes and styles of dance will be presented on a single platform, united by the themes as directed by sankhya or numbers.

In a concept that is Pan-Indian , this five day event showcasing the best of India's dancers, and their creations promises to be visually appealing, intellectually and spiritually stimulating, and is sure to make an epochal mark in the calendar of the cultural events of the country.
